DSE and CSE overcame the negative trend on 12 May, the last trading day of the week with gain of over DSE general index (DGEN) 129.65 points and CSE Selective Categories Index 233.31 points.

On 4 May, 2011 National Board of Revenue (NBR) sought bank account information of 15 senior functionaries related with the capital market including chairman of SEC and DSE president.
The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) All Shares Price Index (DSI) gained 108 points or 2.37 percent to 4671.86 of the day's trading. Out of the 249 traded Issues, 228 Issues advanced,17 Issues declined and four Issues remained unchanged. The turnover stood at BDT 4499.86 million.
The DSE general index (DGEN) gained 129.65 points or 2.36 percent to close at 5612.52 points at the end of the day.
DSE-20 Index gained 55.73 points or 1.54 percent to 3681.66 of the day's trading.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) Selective Categories Index gained 233.31 points or 2.37 percent to 10092.51 of the day's trading. Out of the 189 traded Issues, 171 Issues advanced,13 Issues declined and five Issues remained unchanged. The turnover stood at BDT 725.78 million.
CSE-30 Index gained by 255.57 points or 1.92 percent to 13551.49 of the day's trading.
Yawer Sayeed, managing director of AIMS Bangladesh said the government steps regarding seeking bank accounts of 15 high-ups including the SEC chairman and officials of DSE and Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) positively attended the investors." The Government is very much positive to stabilise the market and sought 15 people bank accounts including the SEC chairman and officials of DSE and Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) and it gave a positive signal among the investors," said Mr. Sayeed.
According to media report, the NBR has sought information on five years’ bank transactions of 15 high-ups as their names appeared in one way or other in the report of the committee probing share market scam. The NBR has sought information to scrutinize whether their wealth was consistent with the income they showed in their income tax returns.
Salauddin Ahmed khan, a finance teacher of the Dhaka University, said some institutional investors may participate in the market as the government pressured them which may be cause of market surge.
